Fun is best known for their hit single “We Are Young” featuring Janelle Monáe, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts.
“We Are Young”
However, this is not their first single, or album for that matter. Fun. released their first album back in 2009, Aim and Ignite. This album came quickly after the band had assembled earlier that year.
Off of Aim and Ignite, “All They Pretty Girls”
Aim and Ignite was released August 25, 2009. Aim and Ignite was released to positive reviews. AbsolutePunk.net’s Drew Beringer praised the album, calling it “what a pop album should sound like” and “the most essential pop album of 2009”. Allmusic called the album “progressive, but in the best possible way” and admired Ruess’s lyrics for “investigating the larger truths of life…with a witty approach that keeps the songs bubbling merrily along on a positive note”…and the positive reviews just kept coming..
“Light A Roman Candle With Me”
Some Nights is the second studio album from American indie pop band Fun. It was released on February 21, 2012 through Fueled by Ramen. It was recorded in 2011 and produced by Jeff Bhasker. After signing to a new label, the band began to work on Some Nights for over nine months throughout 2011. Fun. was influenced by Kanye West and hip-hop throughout the recording process, and West’s co-producer Bhasker brought a new element to the trio’s sound, creating a mix of indie pop, theatric rock, and hip-hop. According to Ruess, the title was inspired by the inconsistencies in one’s personality from night to night.
