From Oskaloosa to New York, Tyler Sash has been representing Iowa at the highest level. Tyler is now the Safety/Gunner for the NFL’s New York Giants, but it was a long road to get there. Tyler attended Oskaloosa High School in Oskaloosa, Iowa. While playing football under Coach Darrell Schumacher, Tyler received many honors. These honors included: two-time first team all-state, Elite all-state (senior year), three-time first team all-district, and three-time academic all-district. Honors don’t come for free though. Tyler worked his ass off in school, recording 137 tackles and 8 interceptions in his high school career. Not only did Tyler play defense in high school, he shined on the offensive side of the ball as well, raking in 28 school records such as: rushing yards in a game (324), most receptions in career (100), most touchdowns in a career 63), and many more.

From there Tyler was enrolled and suited to play for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. While at Iowa, Tyler didn’t let up on his attitude or strength. With his hard work and determination came great plays and great stats. His freshman year he was named Big Ten Top Defensive Freshman (Rivals.com), second team Freshman all-American (Rivals.com), third team Freshman all-American (Phil Steele’s College Football) and, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week vs. Penn State. He did this by recording 53 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 6 pass breakups.

Sophomore and Junior seasons were no different. Tyler worked hard and was rewarded for doing so. His last season Tyler was honored with  Third team all-America (Phil Steele’s College Football), first team all-Big Ten (league coaches and media) first team all-Big Ten (Phil Steele’s College Football), one of 10 semifinal candidates for 2010 Jim Thorpe Award, and was awarded the Hustle Team Award, Defense. Overall in Hawkeye history Tyler ranks fifth in career interceptions (13), holds Iowa career record and ranks fourth all-time in the Big Ten Conference with 392 interception return yards, tied Iowa single-game record with three pass interceptions in 35-3 win at Iowa State in 2009, set Iowa bowl records for longest interception return (48 yards) and interception return yards in a game (74) in 2009 Outback Bowl win over South Carolina, along with tying Iowa bowl record with two interceptions, and he ranks 51st in career tackles (217).

All this hard work payed off and in 2011 the New York Giants drafted Tyler Sash in the 6th round. Sash was just awarded the honor of being named to the 2011 All-Rookie Team (Football Outsiders). Although it’s through special teams, rather than defense, his 17 tackles and 2 forced fumbles are rather impressive for a special teams player, let alone, a rookie. We want you to know that everyone here at OSKY and the entire state of Iowa is following and rooting for you throughout your future in life and career in the NFL.

Sash has been a huge supporter of the #GBNB movement. #GBNB stands for Get Better Not Bitter. A daily reminder that your attitude can influence more than you can imagine. This is a great attitude for people in sports along with everyday life. You can follow #GBNB on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/gbnb-gear. We wanna give a S/O to Tyler Sash and his Giants as they face the Cowboys this weekend for a spot in this years NFL playoffs. If you would like to follow Tyler on twitter and show your support follow him @TSash.

Another artist/designer/entrepreneur we look up to is the one and only, Glen Infante, Founder/Designer/CEO of ILTHY (I Love the Hype). From being a designer at HotCards.com to developing a website to generate funds for a billboard of LeBron James to try to keep him in Cleveland, Infante has proven himself to be a versatile and capable designer. We ran across his design work early on through myspace, and from then on continued to follow this seemingly no-name designer from Cleveland and were awed by every piece of his work. His fame and talent continued to grow as he started designing for huge names in the sports and music industries.

With no intention to start a business, but rather to sell shirts on RealCavsFans.com, Glen continued to work. Supporting everything Cleveland, he began designing shirts centered around local stars such as Lebron James and Kid Cudi and from there grew the ILTHY brand we know of today. It’s people with a passion like this that push us and give us faith to continue to do what we love and attempt to expand our own company. Starting from the bottom, being a no-name brand is no easy task to say the least. Glen has showed us that if you have the passion and the drive to do something great, with a little hard work you can accomplish your biggest dreams. We don’t have the money right now to print all the ideas that are built up inside our heads, but we hope to bring you more personalized OSKY Brand designs in the near future.

In October of 2009, Glen and his ILTHY brand hit the internet with a full-blown website. Even with just a few designs in his pocket, Glen raked in the followers with shirts like Moonman, which were spotted  at big name parties such as Kid Cudi’s listening party. As months went on Glen kept designing for both ILTHY and other side jobs trying to keep King James in Cleveland, making music flyers, and other shirts for businesses and what not. No matter what Glen does, he reps Cleveland with a passion.

In 2011 Glen left his position at HotCards.com and focus on ILTHY at full force. In December of 2011 Glen opened up is very own, ILTHY Workshop space. Located in Gordon Square, the Ilthy shop includes clothing, stickers, wall art and more. ILTHY has grown consistently and in abundance in the last 2 years and will continue to do so for time to come. S/O to Glen and ILTHY, you are a true inspiration, we love what you are doing and look forward to what the future brings. To check out Glen’s site, blog, and shop head to http://ilthy.com/ or follow em on twitter @ilovethehype.

Here at Osky we try not to overload ourselves with work all the time so from time to time we like to kick back and throw on a little t.v. One night we flipped through and caught a couple episodes of an amazing show, How to Make it in America. The show is based around two main characters, Ben (Bryan Greenberg) and Cam (Victor Rasuk). Living in New york with little cash in their accounts and not much big time experience, the two best friends decide they want to make a line of jeans and jump into the fashion business. Using their street knowledge, a small amount of an artistic past, and their known connections the two take on the task of reaching their ‘American Dream’. The story takes off from there with ups and downs and sideline stories here and there to keep the comedy and drama rolling.

How to Make it in America has a phenomenal cast under their belt. Along with Bryan and Victor the show plays host to folks like Kid Cudi, Lake Bell, and Eddie Thomas. Since it aired in February of 2010, it has been through two seasons on HBO. Unfortunately about a week and a half ago, the station announced it would not be bringing the show back for another season. With an array of characters that can connect with a mass audience, an amazingly fun and attention grabbing story line and the underlying message from the show give viewers much more than they bargained for. HBO just never promoted it hard enough to get the initial fan base going from the start. IOWA Only: Zombie Burger

As Iowans people always stereotype us as corn loving farmers that may not be the best in the barrel. But damn it, they’re wrong. I mean, yeah, Iowa may have some bad qualities, but those are made up for with a variety of unique and amazing things from Iowa. This new section of the blog will highlight things found in Iowa and only in Iowa, highlighting people, places, and things around the state. Without further introduction, Zombie Burger has risen.
Zombie Burger is located in the heart of downtown Des Moines at 300 E. Grand Ave. As you can guess from the name of the place, their theme is based around that of zombies, bringing a delightful tasting dinner and twisting it with horror. From the first step into the joint, you can see and hear the entire experience. The place is decked out with zombie paintings, fences hanging from above, and planks of wood nailed to the wall to keep zombies out.
It doesn’t stop with just the decor though, with a glance at the menu, the experience continues. With sandwiches such as the Dead Moines (smoked gouda, crispy prosciutto, niman ranch ham, and truffle mayo) to The Boomstick (deep fried chili, american cheese, onion, and pickle) they really know how to reach the taste buds. Besides burgers, Zombie Burger also serves various salads, deep fried hotdogs, soups, and deserts. Now, besides the food, the drinks are to die for as well. With 13 options from their Brain Freeze Shakes you’ll never be thirsty. Did I mention you can spike those? Yeah, you can and let me tell you from personal experience….so worth it!
We all know that food is just one of the deciding factors in your overall experience. So besides having an awesome layout, delicious food, and high quality liquids, the service is top notch. There is plenty of staff to keep the atmosphere pumping and the food rolling out. I personally enjoyed our waitress as she continued to make zombie references and wicked comments, she really added to the experience. It was a great time and I’m positive I’ll be back again and again.
Now, these are only my opinions, you’ll have to check out Zombie Burger for yourself, but I’m sure you wont regret it. To check out more about Zombie Burger visit their site: http://zombieburgerdm.com/ Hours: Zombie Burger 11am-Midnight daily / Bar 11-2am Daily

Needtobreathe is an eccentric young rock band from Seneca, South Carolina. They have reached the charts by way of mainstream rock/pop, but have had their greatest number of singles on Christian music charts. While enrolled at Furman University, Bear (lead vocals, guitar, piano)—besides being an excellent wide receiver (he won the 2002 Banks McFadden trophy for South Carolina football player of the year) — moonlighted as a vocalist, guitarist, and pianist, even finding time to perform around campus with longtime friend and drummer Joe Stillwell. Meanwhile, Bo (backing vocals, guitar) studied architecture at Clemson University while playing guitar in his spare time, and he and bassist Seth Bolt joined the Bear/Stillwell duo to form Needtobreathe.

Seth Bolt had received a degree in recording engineering at Full Sail University, and the band honed its sound while recording several EPs at Bolt’s Plantation Studios. A strenuous tour of Southeastern and Midwestern America followed. The hard work paid off when Needtobreathe came to the attention of Atlantic Records/Lava Records, who signed the band in 2005. A debut full-length album, Daylight, arrived one year later, having been recorded in British Heliocentric Studios with Keane producer Andy Green. Tours with Train, Collective Soul, Will Hoge, and Taylor Swift kept the guys busy throughout the year, and they returned to the studio in December to begin work on their follow-up.

The Heat was released in August 2007 spawning several singles and earning two Dove Award nominations. The band’s third album, The Outsiders was released on August 25, 2009, peaking at #20 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Hot Christian Albums. The first single for the album, “Lay ‘Em Down”, peaked at #4 on the Hot Christian Songs chart. The single “Something Beautiful” peaked at #12 on the Triple A chart and #6 on the Hot Christian Songs chart. “Hurricane” peaked at #29 on the Alternative chart. The title song of the album, “The Outsiders”, peaked at #11 on the Triple A chart.

Most recently the band released ‘The Reckoning’ on September 20, 2011, peaking at #6 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The first single for the album is titled “Slumber” and has peaked at #26 on the Christian rock charts. The second single released from the album is titled “Drive All Night.”
Needtobreathe is currently out on tour. To check out tour dates or more about the guys visit their site: http://needtobreathe.net/tour2011splash/

FINALLY A BIG KID : The Life Story of Jacob Anthony Lorsung

Born on the 14th of December in 1990 to the proud parents, Tony and Nancy, Jacob lives life to the fullest. His perky smile and continuous laugh never leaves for a dull moment, bringing light to almost every situation. Jacob is not an only child tho, he has an older sister and brother, Echo and Alex. With that come nephews and a niece who he adores more than anything. He enjoys Sunday rituals with his Dad and usually ends the nights with family dinners. To Jacob, family and friends are everything.

Other things that mean a lot to Jacob include the Green Bay Packers, Hillary Rickert, Battlefield, School, and so on…

Jacob is a die-hard Packers fan with a slight obsession with Aaron Rodgers and his “Pack Attack”. Jacob most recently became part owners of the Packers when he bought some shares in stock this past week, he we glowing for days, and still is gloating about how he’s part owner. (i don’t wanna tell him thats a scam to get money from their loyal fans, he’ll see it someday) His Sundays are devoted to his family and in turn, the Packers with his pops.

Besides the Packers, Jacob spend time his his lovely counterpart, Hillary Rickert. They enjoy facebook chatting, the Muppets, Austin Powers, hanging out with Hillary’s little sister, and of course hanging out with all their friends. Jacob is also a full time student at the University of Northern Iowa and majoring in Biology so he’s studying quiet a bit.

To find out more about Jacob, check out his facebook, http://www.facebook.com/lorsung?sk=info or follow him on twitter @JacobLorsung. We here at Osky would just like to thank Jacob for all his help he’s given us these last couple months and look forward to the future with this bright young man. Happy 21st Birthday Bitch!

Also, shout to Jason Nabholz and his 22nd Birthday today. The formal festival of the year, this Friday, be ready!
